As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
After
29 years, it's time for me to announce my formal resignation as
President of the Canadian Kendo Federation. Throughout my time I've
been so fortunate to have worked with the best and brightest people in
Canada (and around the world) who have passionately been involved with
the art of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo.
When I started my term as
President in 1980, the Kendo population in Canada was relatively small.
Over the years, Kendo has grown significantly with Iaido and Jodo
increasing in popularity over the last decade. I feel most fortunate to
have been a part of so many great events - from International Kendo
Federation referee seminars, CKF gradings, regional as well as national
tournaments, to the numerous Canadian teams who participated in the
World Championships. I cannot even begin to attempt to describe all the
great memories over these many years, but I do know that they all have
one thing in common - the people... from the senseis, I've had the
honour to learn kendo to the CKF Board of Directors and Executive as
well as the countless committee members, I've had the privilege to work
along side. And of course, the most important key element has been the
hundreds of people who have given of their time and energies to make
the Canadian Kendo Federation what it is today. My sincere thanks to
all of you. I will forever cherish all the memories and friendships
made.
I am delighted to announce that on October 1st, 2009, Mr.
Hirokazu Okusa became the new President of the Canadian Kendo
Federation. I am sure you will join me in welcoming him as President
and support him in the same manner in which you have supported me over
these many years.
In closing, I wish all the very best to each and every one of you and to your continued success in your future endeavours.
